Rutten to leave Feyenoord

Feyenoord will begin the search for a new head coach after Fred Rutten announced his intention to leave at the end of the season.

Head coach Fred Rutten has announced he will leave Feyenoord when his contract expires at the end of the current season.

The 52-year-old only arrived at the Eredivisie outfit at the start of the campaign as a replacement for Ronald Koeman, but has cited differences between himself and the club over how to move forward.

“Our ambitions are not very different from each other, but when it comes to the ability to take the final step to the top, we do not agree on how to meet the high expectations that now prevails at Feyenoord,” said Rutten.

De Boer demands more despite PSV win

Ajax must improve if they want to have any chance of catching runaway Eredivisie leaders PSV, says Frank de Boer.

Frank de Boer will not allow his Ajax players to revel in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over PSV for too long after demanding even more from his squad.

Goals from Ricardo Kishna, Lasse Schone and Anwar El Ghazi saw Ajax inflict a first home defeat of the season on PSV, cutting the latter’s lead at the top of the Eredivisie to 11 points.

Having held the lead for 48 minutes at Philips Stadion, De Boer’s side found themselves pegged back with 11 minutes to play as Luuk de Jong netted for the hosts.

Eredivisie Review: PSV lose home record as Ajax close the gap

Ajax gave themselves a glimmer of hope in the Eredivisie title race after beating runaway leaders PSV 3-1 at the Philips Stadion on Sunday.

PSV dropped points at home for the first time this season on Sunday as Ajax cut the gap at the top of the Eredivisie to 11 points.

Phillip Cocu’s side have built their impressive league campaign on an impeccable record at the Philips Stadion, but Ajax ended their 12-game winning run with a 3-1 victory.

Two goals in the closing minutes gave the visitors all three points, Lasse Schone and Anwar El-Ghazi on target to the delight of Frank de Boer.

Last chance saloon for De Boer´s Ajax

Ajax boss Frank de Boer will look for a strong showing at PSV to turn attention to on-field matters and boost their fading title hopes.

Ajax head to PSV on Sunday and the Philips Stadion may as well be called the last chance saloon as far as the defending champions’ title hopes are concerned.

Chasing a record fifth consecutive Eredivisie crown, Frank de Boer’s side are 14 points adrift of leaders PSV and defeat at the weekend would surely spell the end of their aspirations.

But the build-up to the game has largely been dominated by speculation surrounding the coach’s position at the Amsterdam Arena.

De Boer has been linked with a move away from the club, with Premier League side Newcastle United mentioned as a possible destination for him.
